NEW RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT: "DAISUKI.", book 1 of the "REN'AI RENSAI" series.

Here it is! The moment you all didn't know you were waiting for! The unveiling of my new series title and the first book to be released by the end of next month!

Are you ready?

COMING SEPTEMBER 28th*

~The Romance Event of the Year~

That's right, my new series is REN'AI RENSAI ("The Serial of Love"),and the first installment, releasing next month, is "DAISUKI." ("I Love You").

The series chronicles the lesbian relationship of two Tokyoites over the span of twenty years. "DAISUKI" begins during year 19, when one of them still refuses to say "I love you". (I'm in the midst of writing the first draft of the second one, which covers the origins of their relationship way back in 1992!) So as you can see, there is no particular chronological order to this series.

It's a spinoff of my main CROSS// series (as it stars two minor characters), and will serve double duty as an introduction to the world. Oh wait, it's not a fantasy! Oh well! It's what I felt like writing! "DAISUKI"'s first draft was written during Camp Nano back in June. Needless to say, I've been working non stop on it to get it polished!

I'll be announcing the blog tour for late September/October tomorrow, along with the general release of further news, including cover, blurb, and character bios! I am so excited!

I swear I am!

Even though I'm so sleep I'm about to pass out!

Of Cover Images and Series Titles

Man I hate it when this happens.
For the past few weeks I've been trollin' around stock photo sites trying to pick a cover image for my upcoming novella release. (Eee! It's getting closer! CLOSER! Soon I'll be doing reveals!) It's been tough. At first I thought I found the perfect image somewhere. The models, with some hair color tweakin', more or less looked exactly like my MCs! Yay! But there were some...erm...~issuess~ with covering certain body parts up so Amazon and other retailers would not throw a fit over it. Then there was the other issue: "Oh, God, how am I going to find matching images for the sequels?" There was a whole shoot with these same models, but they were either butt-ass naked (which is actually what I DON'T want. Yeah, I had to take my temperature too!) or at an unworkable angle for a book cover. Finally, after seeing my graphic designer/editor-at-large/best-friend-forever came up with via a prototype...no, this original image HAS to happen! It just has to! And it will happen! As soon as I buy the rights! :P

Phew. Yes, that's been one of my biggest points of stress recently. The other is trying to come up with a series name to list on Amazon and other retailers so they'll show up nicely on search results. I have at least two more similar stories featuring the same characters planned (one of which I am in the midst of writing now) and have never considered naming them as a series until now. It wouldn't be something special or even "official", really. But at this rate it'll probably get named after a very specific flower.

Bah. Rambling! I'm sure most of you other writers know how it is. So tell me, especially you self-publishers, how did you go about picking the "perfect" cover image? And those who went trade, how did you find the cover making process? Did you get to have a lot of input let alone the final ok?

Countdown to August Camp

No, I haven't forgotten about Camp. Although now anything Nanowrimo related has just become a formality because I write anywhere between 30k-50k a month anyway. (Look at me gloat!) I do like these endeavors though because it gives me a place to put in my daily wordcounts and play with them!

That said, I've decided how to approach this round of Camp. I'm going to "officially" work on HATSUKOI, another novella in the same series as the first I've been working on, and when I complete the first draft, I'll work on REVENGE like a good girl. I have no idea when that will be, though. HATSUKOI is already at 15k but I've barely dipped into the plot I feel. I think this is gonna become a "full-length" novel as opposed to a novella, but we'll see. Kinda like how the first novella was supposed to be a short story. OOPS.

This will be my problem for the rest of my writing life. And I don't caaaaaare.

For now here's my tentative written-in-10-minutes synopsis of HATSUKOI. A girl-meets-girl love story annoyingly set in 1992. Annoying because UGH NOBODY HAS A CELL PHONE HOW DID PEOPLE FUNCTION says the woman who doesn't own a phone of any kind.

Aiko comes from a world where she's never had to question her sexuality - so when she meets Reina, a confident and "masculine" lesbian, everything changes. From awkward dates of candid conversation, to those "aha" moments where everything begins to make sense, Aiko's about to run the gamut of all the emotions and experiences she never even knew existed before.

Told on the backdrop of 1992 Tokyo, "HATSUKOI" is the prequel to "DAISUKI", a F/F romance novella coming out this Autumn.

So, anybody else out there doing the Camp August session?

Weekly Writing Check-In: Aw, crap, Camp.

With all the real life stuff going on right now (don't we all~) I've completely forgotten about Camp August. I think I have it all figured out now. I've changed my writing schedule as I change some priorities around, but for the most part I'm happy where things are going.

Tentatively, I feel it's about time I can announce just a little something:  I currently plan to release my first novella this upcoming September (probably lateish). No finalized cover or title format yet, but that's what I've been working towards lately. It's actually the first part of a trilogy. I'm writing the second one right now and hoping to get it out around Christmas and the third in early 2013. Of course as I said before it's all tentative, depending on how long outside editing takes and the subsequent changes, but look forward to a more solid announcement and corresponding marketing plans sometime next month!

And with that, back to writing. I'm just glad I managed to get all my writing done early yesterday, because watching gymnastics live at 1:30 am has killed my usual writing time. I see how it is.

Weekly Writing Check-In: And We're Off

Well not really. I'm not going anywhere. Nobody's coming here. It's not even a really good figurative title. The only thing going "off" is my alarm clock every day at noon. But! As of yesterday evening I finished the pre-beta edits for my upcoming novella and have sent it off to beta. Wow. I must have no life. In less than a month I wrote a 45k novella, rewrote it, edited it, rewrote it again, and then finally edited it one last time and then sent it off to beta. This is my life. Every day.

Needless to say, my evenings are so consumed with writing/editing that I had NO IDEA what to do with myself later on. I just sat here, after doing my cleaning and blogging, going, "Now what?!" I had idle hands. You'd think I'd take a break, right? Give my brain the night off? Nah. I WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE FIRST DRAFT OF THE NEXT ONE~ Wrote two pages before finally going to sleep. Writing 3k every day is so infused in me now that I don't know how to function otherwise. I mean I got nothing else to do with my time...

So while I wait to hear back from betas on this novella, I've started the next. I plan on releasing both by the end of the year (more details to come, but basically, a couple months apart) so might as well get as much done now as I can before my brain becomes consumed with more editing, Camp, formatting, and marketing! Oh goodness. The life I've signed up for.

That was my week! Huh, for once I actually had something to talk about. As for the cleaning? Taking a break from it tonight. I have a million CDs to put away and I just don't want to. Ha!

Weekly Writing Check-In: Facebook is Live! Also, writing in the present day.

First things first! To get ready for my releases this autumn, I've launched my official facebook page! I didn't think I would be so excited about it, but apparently I am. I don't have a cover image yet. Gonna wait until I have my first book cover ready to add to it. If you "like" it you can get instant notice of my new blog posts and my new articles over at HubPages and elsewhere around the Internet. Yay!

Now, in other weekly writing news, the novella is still coming along. I've got about four, maybe five scenes left to write before the first draft is done. It's been a trip, mostly because this is my first time in a LONG time writing a story set in the "present day". As in, right now, this month, at this moment, in the year 2012. The main CROSS// series starts in 2007 and ends in around 2011, and those latter ones won't get written for a few more years probably. So I'm not used to relying on up-to-date technology and always dropping everything to look up "did they have this yet in 2007?" It's kind of...liberating~.

Then again all your historical peeps are probably laughing at me right now.  Just let me have this moment. :p

Friday Flash: "Daisuki." Scene Excerpt

This week's Friday Flash is brought to you by "DAISUKI.", the F/F romance novella I've been working on this month. This is one of the shorter scenes, so I'm able to post it in its entirety.

No real warnings this week, other than some thin allusions to sex. Otherwise, don't think there's anything.

----

Reina received an incoming international call whilst on a smoke break.
“Un.” She answered with the cigarette still in her mouth.
The line crackled, like bubble wrap passed between two obnoxious kids. “Un? Is that the greeting I get? What if I had been somebody in control of your financial fate?”
Reina took out her cigarette and blew smoke all over her cell phone. “I’ll greet you however I want!” She smiled. “How are you? You in town yet?”
Michiko took her time responding, as evident by the humming she did in the background of the crackling phone – 2012 and technology still hadn’t yet caught up with cell phones and international calls. “I’m fine. And no, I’m just calling to warn you that I’ll be in town next week. I have a show and I want to visit my grandmother.”
“Oh, okay.” Reina checked her watch to make sure she didn’t get back to work late. “What day are you coming? When can I see you?” She was aware she must have sounded like a child pining at candy…Michiko had that effect on her, even after so many years. “And are you coming alone or…?”
“Slow down!” Michiko laughed, her voice as teasing and arousing as it had been twenty years before when they first met; Reina felt her heart lunge into her stomach and then spring up again into her throat. “I’ll be flying in the Sunday of Golden Week. Alone.” Sometimes Michiko liked to bring her significant other with her, although Reina could never remember her name or what she looked like, beyond knowing how she had a good time. “Are you available? Or are you and Ai-chan going on a vacation?”
Reina took another drag of her cigarette as she thought of her “plans” for Golden Week, the nationwide vacation week of mid-Spring. Reina got nine blessed days off, and although she and Aiko would take a vacation somewhere sometimes, neither of them liked the crowds of everyone else on vacation too. “No real plans. Ai-chan wants to go to Nikko with her brother one day but I’m not going.” That guy hates me more than he hates sticking it in his wife. “I mostly plan on just doing my thing.” Whatever that really meant.
Another chuckle. Michiko always thought everything was so humorous. “So that means you have time for me on my time off.”
“I always have time for my Mi-chan.” Reina could feel her everything literally warming to the idea of having Michiko in her arms, even for a small bit of time. “But I thought you were…unavailable.”
            “We have an understanding.”
Reina nodded, and checked her voice before she spoke again – she didn’t want to sound like a giddy schoolgirl fraught at the thought of a date. “Well, whatever. I’ll follow your lead.”
            “Or create your own.”
“Hey now!” Reina finished her cigarette and extinguished it in the designated place. “Well, just let me know when you get in. I’ll keep a day open on Golden Week for my Mi-chan.”
They parted cordially, with unspoken but subtle promises. When Reina disconnected and put her phone away she thought of all the wonderful things she wanted to do with her best friend – at least two of them could happen outside of a bedroom. Reina didn’t care what kind of arrangement Michiko had with her significant other so long as it meant being together. It couldn’t have been different from Aiko having sex with the neighbor on rainy afternoons.
Reina must have had some sort of stupidly smitten look on her face when her coworker, Nakamura, stumbled out of the building to take his own smoke break. He took one peek at Reina’s face and commented, “Wow! You have a nice smile!”
Said smile turned into a grimace as Reina looked back into his wrinkling, pale face. Nakamura was older than even her, a bachelor with a half-bald head and glasses twice as big as his eyes. Reina had an inkling she knew why this man was still a bachelor:  inside the office he was as polite as expected, but outside he had a tendency to talk-down to and extrude general creepiness to every woman he came across…including Reina. Even now she could smell his breath mints permeating in his pocket near her face. “Um, thanks.” She nodded in practiced politeness.
She stood and attempted to steal back into the building to resume work before she got in trouble with her section chief, but Nakamura was apparently not going to let her get away that easily. “You should smile more. It makes you look like a woman for once.” His words were mangled on his cigarette as his hands fished for his lighter.
“Uh…” Reina felt something – disgust? – run down her spine in little pricks. Just like him. “Thanks…I have to get going.”
“I bet the section chief would like a smile or two sometimes.” Nakamura pulled out his cigarette from his mouth as Reina opened the door. “Keep it up and you’ll be prettier than the errand girls.”
Reina slammed the door against his endless chattering. She thought she tasted bile in her throat.
